Life in the ‘Burbs

I have had two fairly exhausting weeks, so having two consecutive days off work was something I was really looking forward to. Life in retail, eh?

Anyhow, today started at 10:55 when I woke up, followed by lunch out with Mrs P, a haircut, having Kieran and Chris visit us (they’re the subject of today’s Blip here – Men And Boyz), some grocery shopping on my own, with a cheeky Starbucks in between, washing the car, and then taking a few photographs on Ballymaconnell beach. My plans for tomorrow are similarly relaxing. Cinema with Sophie at some stage and another lie in figure highly!

Looking Up

This is the first of two posts today. On Sunday evenings post-18:00, the city centre is fairly quiet, so my photo-walk was almost without human subjects. Having spent many, many hours walking around town, I am aware of the higher level beauty of some of the older buildings that have had their street level frontage gutted and modernised, and I think Belfast is much poorer for it. This first Art Deco building is in Ann Street and I am always attracted by the elephant head features at the top of the windows.

Look Up I

Almost opposite “Elephant House” is this alleyway. It, has various times, has been a shelter for homeless people and some of Belfast’s street drinkers use it as a lounge. On one occasion, I saw a transaction of some sort taking place between two shifty-looking characters. It looked almost innocent yesterday evening.

My other “look up” is from High Street. Note the dragon gargoyle thingy from 1905!

Scene Of The Grime

Just a few shots taken after work on my way to Sinnamon Coffee before heading to Outreach. A terrace of Victorian houses with a derelict off licence booze store on the end caught my eye on the Stranmillis Road. Cue wandering about alleyways suspiciously getting some weird looks from the natives…

Here are Scene Of The Grime, Seen Better Days, Rat Run and Going Dark. If you have enjoyed this post, please Like/Share on Facebook, RT on Twitter or Like/Comment on here 🙂
